Rouhani urges prevention of corruption, money laundering

TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (MNA) – Stating that Iranians are revolutionary, standing by each other in a great country, President Rouhani said, “we are a big family and it is natural to have problems. We should be proud of fighting corruption step by step."

Speaking at the regular weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani said, “we should leave the issues to the related bodies to study them at the expert level."

Some issues are very clear, said Rouhani, adding, “why do we fight over clear issues? The truth is that the entire world is faced with money laundering. We must all make attempts to decrease corruption and stop money laundering."

“We have to fight drugs, but we have addicts. We have to fight theft, but we have thieves. We have to fight corruption but we have bribery and we shouldn’t get mad at it,” he added.

Stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the pioneer of fighting terrorism, he said, “Iran is the biggest victim of aggression and terrorism and using weapons of mass destruction and the major state in fighting WMDs, because we are its victims."

He said, “today, we should be –and are- the top country in not letting terrorists take advantage of different financial systems for transferring money."

Rouhani went on to refer to the hard work and devotion of the law enforcement, IRGC and Basij forces in western and eastern borders, saying, “unfortunately, there is drugs in our country and we must fight it. Where there’s drugs, there’s dirty money, which is being laundered somewhere, maybe in Afghanistan, Turkey or Europe."

President Rouhani appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality of the people of West Azerbaijan province, adding, “people of Iran are very kind and wherever we go, they warmly welcome us despite the hardships they have been facing in the recent months."

“In 1394, when our foreign ministers and nuclear team were negotiating with other 6 countries, I visited Isfahan and the people of the city warmly welcomed us in a way that then US foreign secretary told the negotiation team that he had seen the hospitality and felt how much the people support the government."

He added that one of the greatest honour for the current Iranian administration is working hard to save Lake Urmia.

Referring to the work done in developing the private sector, free trade zones, tourism, power plants and new factories that have been inaugurated, he said, “this indicates that our country is alive and the government is doing everything it can."
